CM Issue: Abdul Khalid leaves it to the wisdom of the Selangor Sultan

SHAH ALAM, 26 Aug: Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will leave it to the wisdom of HRH the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to find the best solution regarding the issue of the Selangor Chief Minister’s position.

He said this at a special press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat (SUK) Building today, thus restoring the confidence of the people in the ruler, the institution of the monarchy and public administration.

“I am confident that the Sultan will place the interests of the people and the state first in making a decision and I sincerely commit to the choices decided by HRH,” he said.

Abdul Khalid also hopes that all parties, especially politicians, the media and users of social media will avoid making statements or criticism that leads to the intention to belittle the role of any parties involved, especially the institution of the monarchy and the Malay Rulers.

He said that the rights of the Selangor Sultan, under the laws of the State Constitution, should be respected even though the country adopts the principles of democracy that allows freedom of speech.

“While we respect the principles of democracy that gives freedom of speech, but decorum, discipline and the rights of HRH the Sultan of Selangor under the Selangor State Constitution must be respected for the benefit of the state,” he added.

Abdul Khalid, meanwhile, gives due respect for the Sultan of Selangor for consenting to him to go before the Sultan this afternoon at the Bukit Kayangan Palace in Shah Alam to discuss the political crisis that the state is facing.

He also seeks forgiveness from the Sultan for the current political climate which has led to the Palace being dragged into the administrative crisis in this state.

“I note that the political dynamics in the state of Selangor is increasing and has raised the people’s concern.

“For the continuity of political stability in this state of Selangor, I submit to HRH my decision to resign as the Chief Minister of Selangor.

“HRH has taken note of my intention and he has decided to postpone the acceptance of my resignation until the appointment process for the new Chief Minister is completed,” he said.
