PAS Syura Ulamak Council: Abdul Khalid remains as CM

SHAH ALAM, 7 Aug: The PAS Syura Ulamak Council decided that Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should be maintained as the Chief Minister of Selangor as long as he is not convicted of any breach of trust.

In a joint statement with the PAS Mursyidul Am, Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, and also the Deputy Mursyidul Am, Tuan Guru Datuk Dr Haron Din, the Syura Council made the decision based on Islamic law.

The statement also said that the decision was made in view of the interests of the people which must precede individual and party interests.

“If any charge is later convicted by the authorities like the MACC and the court, then the Syura Ulamak Council is ready to re-evaluate his position.

“The Syura Ulamak Council reiterates that PAS will remain steadfast with the policies and principles of Islam, as enshrined in its constitution, and continue to be committed to Pakatan Rakyat,” stressed the statement.

In July, PKR decided for Abdul Khalid to be replaced by the PKR President, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, however it was not agreed by the PAS President, Tuan Guru Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Earlier this week, the PKR Secretary-General revealed that the decision to change the Chief Minister was based on allegations that question Abdul Khalid’s integrity, among others involving the Bank Islam debt settlement.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary, Mohd Yasid Bidin, lodged a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the allegations after Saifuddin failed to do so when asked by Abdul Khalid.

The first of such report was done to enable the MACC to conduct investigations regarding misconduct and Abdul Khalid is sure that he is in the right.
