Tawas registration period extended to 3 years

SHAH ALAM, 22 July: The Selangor Government has extended the eligibility period for the registration of the Selangor Children’s Heritage Fund (Tawas) from one year to three years from the date of birth.

The Manager of Public Relations, Marketing and Promotions (Yawas), Kee Abidin Hairum, said that the move is being taken to enable Selangor children who have not reached 3 years of age or born from the 9th of July 2011 who have not had the opportunity to participate in Tawas to register as members.

“We care about the complaints of parents who complained that a year is not enough for them to register their children under Tawas.

“This move is also expected to help Tawas increase the number of registrations so that more Selangor children who are eligible will receive the benefits of this programme,” he explained to Selangor Kini.

Starting July 9, the State Executive Council (MMKN) has considered and approved the eligibility period for Tawas application to three years.

It is effective immediately and any child who has not reached three years of age on the date of registration will be accepted, subject to the existing terms and conditions.

Tawas was introduced by the State Government since June 2008 with the promise that every child born in Selangor will receive a RM100 investment and at the age of 18, participants have the chance of receiving RM1,500 per person from the investment.

As of July 22, 2014, Tawas received 159,953 applications. Out of this number, only 139,972 applications were approved while 13,907 applications failed, and the remainder 3,040 applications were not complete to be processed.

Registration for TAWAS can be made at the Assemblyman’s Office, the District Office, the Headman/Village Chief Office, Local Authorities, selected National Registration Departments (NRD) or directly at the YAWAS office at A1-11-2 & A1-11-3 Jalan Multimedia 7/AH, Park City, I-City, Shah Alam.
