Police: White van abduction, harvesting organs of students in Sabak Bernam a hoax

SHAH ALAM, 24 June: The police deny the dissemination of false news that has been spread on social networking sites about the abduction of children using a white van, with a Thai plate, for the purpose of harvesting organs to be sold abroad.

The Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Noor Mushar Mohd, said that the dissemination of the false news through social networking sites could be penalised under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

He said that recently, there have been a lot of information spread through social media regarding the issue, especially in Sabak Bernam, and this is in addition to the statements issued by schools and other agencies.

“The Sabak Bernam District Police vehemently denies the dissemination of the information.

“The information is just manufactured and exaggerated, and it tries to cause unrest among the people,” he said, quoted from the Selangor Police Facebook page.

He said that this action could bring up fear among the society and schooling students.

“So far, the police have not received any reports from the public regarding the matter and we have not found any reported cases in this district from our investigations,” he said.

According to him, anyone using the internet or phones to spread false news could be charged under Section 233 (1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both.

However, the police advise the public to not believe the dissemination of this information.
