Selangor Sultan inaugurates RM3 million Kampung Assam Jawa Mosque

KUALA SELANGOR, 24 July: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, consented to inaugurate the RM3 million Kampung Assam Jawa Mosque yesterday.

The Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS), Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad, said that the mosque is built because the original mosque, which was developed in 1960, was getting dilapidated.

“In 2006, due to physical factors of the mosque being old and the increase in parishioners as well as local residents, a new mosque was built at the original site.

“The construction of the new mosque was completed in 2008 and has been used until today,” he said at the Sultan of Selangor’s Iftar with the people.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Sultan Sharafuddin who was accompanied by his son and the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

At the same event, Sultan Sharafuddin also consented to present Hari Raya contributions to orphans, the poor and needy, and new converts at the mosque.

A total of 375 poor and needy recipients, as well as 154 converts, received assistance from the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), while MAIS donated to 158 orphans.
