PKNS provides RM3 billion in subsidy funds to build affordable homes

AMPANG, 20 June: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has allocated over RM3 billion in subsidy funds to build affordable homes, as done by the Selangor Government, in an effort to help the people own their own homes.

The affordable homes construction effort, through the Selangor State Dream Homes programme or PKNS Dream Homes, is a holistic initiative in providing quality affordable homes for the people, carried out by PKNS.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlers, Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that the move is done without bringing profit to PKNS because they are not able to subsidise the construction of affordable homes to be sold below the market price of RM150,000.

Prior to this, various parties disputed the move by PKNS of allegedly enthusiastically looking for profit in some projects developed without knowing that the profit would actually be reinvested to fund the subsidy for the construction of affordable homes.

“We feel that this is one of the corporate social responsibilities (CSR) by PKNS to share the profit received from high-cost construction projects with the people,” he said during a press conference at the De Palma Hotel in Ampang.

Iskandar explained that the PKNS Dream Homes are also friendly toward the disabled and senior citizens, like the construction of four apartment units in Bandar Baru Bangi to ease their movement with designs that take into account the disabled, as well as emphasising the concept of community harmony.

The Selangor Government, through PKNS, previously built 1,422 detached homes in Bukit Botak, which was fully completed in December 2012, with a subsidy of RM80 million and an offer price of RM99,000.

The next project was the six-story apartment in Section 3, Bandar Baru Bangi, where the construction of 124 units, which began in 2011, was fully completed in September last year.

The key handing-over ceremony to buyers will be held on September 13, 2014.

Apart from that, PKNS is also finalising two Dream Homes project at Antara Gapi and Desa Alam, Section U12 in Shah Alam.

The Antara Gapi project is a 1½-storey terrace house, housing 129 units with a price of RM100,000 – RM120,000 per unit.

“We expect for the project, which received a subsidy of RM4.2 million, to be completed in the first quarter of 2015. Currently, the project is still on-going,” added the Assemblyman for Chempaka.

Meanwhile, the Desa Alam project at Section U12 of Shah Alam, which has 104 apartment units with a floor area between 750 and 850 square feet, has been offered.

This project is a joint venture between PKNS and Debbin Sdn Bhd. With an attractive design, this project also offers a conducive atmosphere with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

This project units are offered at a price of RM69,000 to RM120,000 each. The entire subsidy incurred for this project amounts to RM9.5 million.
