Selangor to Still Establish ISA Foundation, Wan Azizah Appointed as Chairman

SHAH ALAM, 12 Apr: The Internal Security Act (ISA) Foundation will still be established even though the Act has been repealed.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the initiative is being carried out to defend the families of previous detainees to carry out their lives.

He said that the State Government, through the Selangorku Grant, has allocated RM500,000 for the preliminary round.

“I have attended a meeting with Datin Seri Wan Azizah and the Executive Council to discuss this matter. Although it (ISA) has been repealed, we still think their families should be assisted.

“This is because I think they tried to bring justice to the country and state, in terms of prisoners who did not receive trial. So, family members of husbands or wives in ISA detention experience finances and education.

“So, our effort to set up this foundation is to collect funds that will be channelled to their family’s development,” he said when met at the Annexe Building lobby yesterday.

Abdul Khalid said that the foundation will be chaired by Azizah, who is also the Assemblywoman for Kajang.

“She will also be working in taking care of safety, health and welfare,” he said.
