MPSJ to be Called a City

SUBANG JAYA, 8 May: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) will send an application to the Federal Government to upgrade the local authority (LA) to a city council.

The President of MPSJ, Datuk Asmawi Kasbi, said that they have met with the criteria needed to be called a city, especially with the five star rating crowned by the Ministry of Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
He said that MPSJ is also the only local authority in the district of Petaling that is still under the municipal status compared to Shah Alam and Petaling, which has already become a city.

“We will try to make an application as soon as possible to upgrade to city status, we have long prepared from this upgrade.

“We also have a solid foundation to upgrade to city status. However, it is for the Federal Government to consider this decision, and we will receive any decision received,”he said at a press conference at the MPSJ Building yesterday.

Recently, MPSJ was upgraded as a Meritorious LA with the five star rating by KPKT, beating over 100 other local authorities across Malaysia.

Apart from that, MPSJ received the highest score, 90.3. Also recognised as a Meritorious LA is the Johor Bharu City Council (MBJB), with a score of 90.19.

Previously, MPSJ was also listed among the five best LAs in Malaysia through the LA STar Rating System (SSR-PBT) which was carried out by KPKT to evaluate the service quality of each local authority.

The SSR-PBT began in 2008, with 352 indicators developed based on four key areas; management, core services, customer management and community participation, as well as the view from residents (involving communities and views of the residents – Survey Form).
