Haze: Abdul Khalid Advises People to not be Involved in Outdoor Activities

SHAH ALAM, 14 Mar: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, advised the public, especially Selangorians, to not engage in outdoor activities as the Air Pollutant Index (API reading in many areas in the state are at dangerous levels.

Through Twitter, he said that residents have been asked to use surgical masks, in addition to consuming a lot of plain water.

“Banting and Port Klang have recorded dangerous API readings. Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Kuala Selangor are at unhealthy levels.

“Therefore, residents are asked to not engage on outdoor activities, use surgical masks and drink plenty of water,” he said.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government will make every effort to address this difficult situation.

Meanwhile, Assemblymen from across the state have started distributing masks in their respective areas since last night.

As of this morning, the Department of Environment (DOE) website reported that Port Klang and Banting have each recorded API levels of 358 and 311 respectively, while Petaling Jaya is at 185, Shah Alam at 164, Putrajaya at 175 and Kuala Selangor is at 149.

The Selangor Department of Education has also ordered 31 schools in the Klang district to close today due to the unhealthy and dangerous haze.
