SHAH ALAM, 17 MAY: The Sungai Selangor dam which provides an estimate amount of 60 percent water to Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor has been recording a steady rise in water levels due to the daily rain over the period of three weeks, this month.
As of 8 this morning, the level of the reservoir recorded at the Sungai Selangor dam was on the rise at 41.83 percent with the rate of 96.21 million cubic metres, according to the Selangor Water Management Authority’s (SWMA) website.
It continued to increase compared to previous record of 40.68 percent on May 4th, while the capacity of the dam if full is at 235,320,000 cubic meters.
The design of the dam is at 400 meters wide at the foot, 800 meters long and 110 meters high, consisting of 1.2 million cubic meters of clay and 6.4 million cubic meters of granite.
At this point, as a result of excess flow of river received daily due to the heavy rains, the only on-going operation is the pumping of river water into the pool.
The water from the pool in Bestari Jaya was pumped into the Sungai Selangor dam from February 26th till April 4th.
Meanwhile, the level of reservoir recorded at the Batu dam is at 83.67 percent, while the Langat dam recorded levels at 19.49 million cubic metres (57.16 percent) as compared to 18.91 million cubic metres (55.45 percent), last week.
At the same time, the latest recorded reservoir levels of the Klang Gates dam is at 15.85 million cubic metres ( 62.58 percent), Semenyih dam, 47.10 million cubic metres (79.74 percent), Sungai Tinggi dam, 78.22 million cubic metres (68.31 percent) and Tasik Subang dam recorded levels of 3.56 million cubic metres (84.69 percent).
