SHAH ALAM, 8 Apr: The Selangor Government has approved 47 construction projects under the Selangorku Homes programme to be built to meet the demands of the people in Selangor.
The Executive Councillor in charge of Housing, Iskandar Abdul Samad, said from the total, 18,732 housing units will be built from 44 of the projects after negotiations are completed to fix the price of the units.
He said that there is a difference between the construction of Selangorku Homes and the PR1MA Homes built by the Federal Government in terms of price and space.
The price of Selangorku Homes are between RM42,000 to RM250,000, while PR1MA Homes are between RM100,000 to RM400,000.
In terms of area, houses built by the Selangor Government are between 700 to 1,000 square feet, while PR1MA houses are between 670 to 1,300 square feet.
“We do not want to build home over 1,000 square feet because we want to focus on the middle class and for them, 1,000 square feet is quite sufficient,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS).
As of now, the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) has received 7,335 applications for Selangorku Homes.
In total, the Selangor Government targets building 35,000 units of affordable housing, including those jointly carried out with private developers like Sime Darby, by 2017.
The Assemblyman for Cempaka explained that the State Government will provide incentives to reduce development charged to private developers involved in residential projects carried out with the State Government.
In addition, a Select Committee to oversee the completion of the housing projects has been established to ensure the construction of the 18,732 housing units is completed as soon as possible.
He added that the 30 percent quota for Bumiputeras remains.
While the incentive of a seven percent price cut to buyers has been abolished because the sales price offered by the State Government is lower and a subsidy has been granted from the construction price.
