Selangor Maintains Welfare Policies, Safeguard the Interests of 5.6 Million People

SHAH ALAM, 31 Dec: The state government is providing various facilities to ease the burden of the people of Selangor who will face various increases in price of goods and services, especially in 2014.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that equal opportunities are given to all residents of Selangor to enjoy the state’s wealth, regardless of race or status.

He had guaranteed to not use populist and socialist understandings since Pakatan Rakyat (PR) took over the reins of Selangor in March 2008.

“The welfare policy programme in the Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) agenda is continuous and is well received by the majority of people in the state.

“We want to continue the MES so that the state’s development can be executed well and comprehensively for the betterment of the people and the prosperity of the state.

“I must stress that Selangor PR, with limited powers in terms of determining the prices of essential goods and services, as well as homes, will always practice welfare policies fairly in effort to safeguard the interests of the people, of various races and backgrounds, in this state amounting to about 5.6 million people,” he said in the 2014 New Year’s message today.

Abdul Khalid said that Selangor will continue balanced spending and class financial management with the total allocation of RM2.28 billion for the benefit of the people and the state in the Selangor State Budget 2014.

“I, as the Chief Minister of Selangor, will strive to ensure that all elected representatives, public servants and community leaders throughout the state will undertake their tasks with responsibility for the peace of the people, sincerely without dishonesty.”

Among PR’s efforts to reduce the burden of the people in 2014 is to provide free bus services, to maintain residence taxes, provide affordable housing and to increase provisions for various programmes and existing schemes in the MES agenda.

“At the same time, we want the ability of the people to be enhanced, to not just receiving various assistance, among them being through the development of rural which will be implemented in all districts in Selangor fro 2014.

“We want to also encourage the participation of women, youth and pensioners in entrepreneurship programmes as well as other creative ways that can generate income,” he said.
