Anwar: Kajang By-Election Catalyst for Selangor’s Economic Growth

PUCHONG, 10 Feb: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election will serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Selangor.

He said that it is also part of efforts to counter racism, which is currently Umno-BN’s agenda.

“Do you take risks in politics? Yes because we don’t want to sacrifice the people.

“I also want to make Kajang a platform to implement economic growth, for there to be a guarantee for each child of Selangor and for their rights to be defended.

“I will not let anyone dispute rights, whether the person is a Malay, Chinese, Indian or Natives, and other races such as Christians, and I want to assure that we will not betray their trust as well as their rights,” he said.

He said this in a lecture entitled “The Asian Renaissance Course” at the Centre for Reform Democracy and Social Initiatives in Puchong recently.

Earlier, Anwar urged all leaders and the people of Selangor to rise and defend the rights of each citizen of the state from being captured by Umno-BN, who is waiting for an opportunity to do so.

The Kajang DUN by-election will take place on 23 March, while early voting will be done on 19 March.

The Kajang DUN seat was left vacant when the previous Assemblyman, Lee Chin Cheh, resigned from his post on 27 January.

A total of 39,278 registered voters will be eligible to vote in the by-election, including 1,197 early voters and 26 voters from the absent or abroad category.
