Wan Azizah: Kajang By-Election, People’s Referendum to Reject BN’s Tyranny

BANGI, 11 Mar: The President of PKR, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah, has urged voters of the Kajang constituency to reject Barisan Nasional (BN) to deliver a clear message to the BN Government that the people reject injustice and tyranny.

Wan Azizah said that the Kajang by-election should translate into a clear referendum to the BN Government on the shortcomings of the country’s judiciary.

She said that she was so moved by the support given by the people to PKR and Pakatan Rakyat over the years.

“I encourage all voters, especially in Kajang, to join me in giving a strong and comprehensive message.

“In the uneven land calculation, I consider this victory as what I am looking for, pray for the importance of obtaining a large majority,” she said.

Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Muhammad Taib, said that the people will translate support for Pakatan Rakyat in the voting on 23 March.

“I think that only a small part are sympathy votes. Most votes want reform and change. That’s obvious,” he said.

The Kajang by-election involves a two corner clash between the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, who will contest against the candidate from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.

Both female leaders became official candidates when they submitted their nomination forms to the Election Commission (EC) at the Kajang Municipal Council Sports Complex this morning at Bandar Baru Bangi.

Kajang has 38,965 registered voters, with Malay voters making up of 48 percent, 41 percent Chinese voters and 10 percent Indian voters.

In the six-cornered clash in the 13th General Election (GE13) on 5 May, Lee Chin Cheh (PKR) received 19,571 votes with a majority of 6,842, thus allowing him to defeat the BN candidate from MCA, Lee Ban Seng, who received 12,727 votes.
