CYBERJAYA, 6 Dec: Entering the fourth year since it was first launched, the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSP) 2013 Tree Planting Programme this time did not only witness the planting of forest trees.

Instead, MPSP Councillor, Lau Weng Chan, said that this programme witnessed 40 local fruit saplings being planted around the Putrajaya City Forest.

“This year we planted different trees so participants can not only see their trees grow, but also enjoy its yield.

“So when they come to Malaysia, they can stop to enjoy the local fruits that they planted themselves,” he said.

He mooted the idea of inviting Japanese students to join in this tree planting programme which has taken place since 2010.

As in previous years, the programme involved 170 students of the Nagasaki Nichidai High School, Japan.

One of the students, Yuumi Yamasaki, 17, wants to return to Malaysia to enjoy the fruits from the tree she planted herself.

“Despite the rain, I had the opportunity to plant a mangosteen tree because I love the taste of mangosteen,” she said.

Earlier, they were treated to delicious local fruits such as durian, rambutan, mangosteen, jackfruit, guava and pulasan.
