MBSA: Contracts Terminated for Contractors Failing to Adhere to Work Requirements

SHAH ALAM, 24 Dec: Contractors found to fail in adhering to requirements to conduct clean-up work highlighted by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) will face their contracts being terminated.

The Mayor for MBSA, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, said that the stern action is being taken to ensure that clean-up work around the Shah Alam city is not disturbed.

“However, we will first give a correction notice. If after two times it is not adhered to, the service contract will be terminated.

He said this right after the offer letter presentation ceremony for public cleaning services and drain maintenance in MBSA areas was completed.

Prior to that, he took the opportunity to give a briefing about the ‘standards’ of clean-up work and maintenance to 114 contractors.

“It needs to be reminded that MBSA will not compromise with any contractor regarding the issue of clean-up services because otherwise, it will tarnish the image of MBSA.

“In relation to that, MBSA hopes that every contractor will be responsible in carrying out work according to schedule and the stipulated time,” he said.

A total of 18 contractors were hired to carry out drain and drainage system maintenance with the total of the contracts amounting to RM2.2 million.

They will begin their services on 1 January to 31 December 2014, and will be under the monitoring of the MBSA Engineering Department.

Meanwhile, for public clean-up, 96 contractors were hired for a period of three years, starting in 2014 to 2016.

The overall total for public cleaning is RM3.8 million, with consistent monitoring carried out by the MBSA City Services Department.

For 2013, MBSA allocated RM6.5 million a month to 427 contractors for maintenance work, bringing the total allocation for the entire year to RM77.7 million.
