KLANG, 23 Dec: The attentiveness of the Selangor Government in providing school bus subsidies is welcomed, especially when the people will face hardship in 2014 due to various increases in price of goods and services implemented by the BN Government.
Factory operator, M Daravanan, 37, said that with the provision of the bus subsidy, amounting to RM300 for each student, the parents burden, which is ever increasing, to raise children can be reduced.
“The money we have is simply not enough in the current economic climate, even more so when we have to face various increases in price next year.
“So, the assistance from the Selangor Government is greatly appreciated, especially for those of earning a low income,” said Saravanan, who commented on the various increases in prices of goods and services announced by the BN Government, including the rumours of an increase in school buses by 40 percent.
Prior to this, two of his children, schooling at the Ladang Brafferton Tamil vernacular school (SJKT) received a school bus subsidy of RM300 each.
Meanwhile, K.Veloo, 42, considers the initiative by the State Government as being in line with the concept of the government in putting the people first.
“For me, the bus fare for sending my children to school is RM70 per person. Imagine, I have five schooling children.
“Therefore, I am very grateful to the Selangor Government which is concerned about the needs of the people, such as I, who earn a mediocre income.
“This is the duty of a government, to help the poor and not vice versa,” said Veloo who came with two of his children who received the subsidy.
The school bus fare subsidy for the Klang district was presented by the Deputy Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government, Tiew Way Keng, at the Klang Land and District Office Multipurpose Hall.
The subsidies were presented to 39 students from four schools; SJKT Ladang Brafferton, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Perempuan Kapar, SMK Tengku Idris Shah and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kapar.
