3 Selected NGOs Distribute Funds of RM100,000 to Haiyan Typhoon Victims

SHAH ALAM, 6 Dec: The Selangor Government announced three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) to help distribute aid amounting to RM100,000 to victims of the Haiyan Typhoon in the Philippines today.

The three NGOs are; the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation which RM50,000 is allocated, while RM30,000 goes to Islamic Relied Malaysia, and RM200,000 to the Malaysia relief Agency (MRA).

The Exco in charge of Welfare and Women’s Affairs, Rodziah Ismail, said that the decision to choose the three NGOs was done after a meeting and discussion was held with them.

She said that all the NGOs have carried out humanitarian missions in a number of places in the Philippines which were hit by the typhoon since last November.

“All of these organisations are already there and have started their duties. We hope that this assistance will help the victims of the Haiyan Typhoon a little early in November,” she said.

Rodziah said this after handing over cheques to the representatives of the NGOs at her office here at the Selangor State Secretariat Building (SUK) yesterday.

The Buddhist Tze Chi Foundation was represented by Sio Kee Hong, while Islamic Relief Malaysia was represented by its director, Zairul Shahfuddin Zainal Abidin and Mohd Sharulazilan Said represented Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).

The funds was following a visit from a delegation from the Philippines Embassy led by Medardo G. Macaraig to Rodziah’s office to discuss about the country which was stricken by the the disaster causing over two million of the people to be affected.

At the same time, the three NGOs thanked the state government for being concerned about humanitarian missions which is actively conducted in the country.
