SUBANG JAYA, 4 Dec: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) carried an integrated operation on illegal disposal goods businesses to curb crimes of theft, particularly involving public property.
The integrated operations led by the MPSJ Assistant Director of Enforcement, Mazrul Zahar Mohamad, was carried out when MPSJ and the police obtained information that there was some selling of stolen goods at scrap metal businesses around Subang Jaya.
The MPSJ Enforcement Department Director, Major (Rtd) Mohd Raship Rasul, said that the operation involving 53 officers and police from the Putra Height Station was carried out on four disposal goods businesses that were operating without licences around Bukit Lancung yesterday.
“We carried out the operation on four centres selling disposal goods because we believe that these sales centres are contributors to the raise in the crime index with the stealing of public and private property that can be sold a scrap metal.
“In addition, we also received complaints from the public regarding the existence of scrap metal businesses without licences that have the potential to become Aedes mosquito breeding areas, are high-risk or catching fire and causes disruption to the comfort of local residents,” he said today.
He said that MPSJ has also taken action to close down the four premises in addition to imposing a fine of RM1,000 and valuables such as weighing machines, cooking gas cylinders and high-pressure gas cylinders were seized.
The action was taken under the Business and Industry Trade By-Laws which is carrying out business without licence from MPSJ.
“Previously, these disposal goods businesses were charged with four notices and compounds. This brings the total number of compounds issues to the scrap metal businesses around Subang Jaya for this year to 255.
“MPSJ only issues disposal goods business licences after applicants fulfill the conditions set in the provisions of the by-laws,” he said.
