MH370 lost for 81 days, raw satellite data finally revealed

SHAH ALAM, 27 May: Today, the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) and the British satellite firm, Inmarsat, have finally revealed the data used to track the route of the Malaysia Airlines aircraft, MH370, which has been missing since 81 days ago.

This action was taken following mounting calls from passengers’ relatives for greater transparency.

“Inmarsat and the DCA are working together to disclose the data communication logs, or raw data, along with an explanation of the analysis used to work out the route,” the department said in a press statement.

The relatives of the passengers revealed the data on their Facebook pages, after receiving them from Inmarsat and the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.

The report, among others, contains data communications log comprised 14 pieces of data from seven “handshakes”.

Last week, Inmarsat revealed that the data contains pairs of numbers, between the aircraft and the satellite.

One number is time information, the other is frequency of communication, Reuters reported.

The Boeing 777 aircraft carrying 239 passengers and crew went missing on March 8 when it was scheduled to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The flight is believed to have ended in the Indian Ocean, off Western Australia.
