JAIS officers who ignored orders will face stern action

SHAH ALAM, 6 June: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) will take disciplinary action against officers found to ignore orders in the raid at the Hindu wedding ceremony recently.

The JAIS Director of Public Relations and Publication, Nurhamizah Othman, said that currently an internal investigation is being conducted on the officers involved.

She said that all JAIS officers have been informed earlier that any enforcement carried out on non-Muslims should seek consent from the State Executive Council members.

“JAIS takes this matter seriously and will not hesitate to take appropriate action against officers found guilty and ignoring orders,” she said in a press statement.

On June 1, JAIS raided a Hindu wedding ceremony at a temple in Petaling Jaya because they suspected that the bride was Muslim.

Yesterday, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that JAIS is ready to help the bride, Zarinah Abd Majid, solve her religious status.
