PETALING JAYA, 27 June: The PKR Central Election Committee (CEC) admitted that there was a power failure during the counting of votes for the position of Deputy President.
Its Chairman, Datuk Johari Abdul, said that the power outage, which took place for about two hours, was due to a malfunction at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) sub-station in the area.
“Complaints to TNB were done immediately. You can confirm it with TNB.
“During the incident, the votes for the Deputy President candidate, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, was leading comfortably.
“Calculations for branches have yet to be carried out. The CEC was monitoring, and candidate representatives were also there. We took pictures of the vote counting room conditions before everyone was directed to vacate the counting room and it was then locked,” said Johari during a press conference held at the PKR Headquarters today.
Johari explained that the vote count was resumed after the power was restored and Abdul Khalid maintained a comfortable lead in the contest for Deputy President.
Meanwhile, the TNB Care Line informed that there was power failure during the time period previously mentioned by Johari.
“The malfunction involved nine generators for the area.
“Even the block where Hotel Media is located was also involved,” said the officer involved when contacted by Selangor Kini.
