Order business to register for GST, sign that BN does not heed the people’s protest

SHAH ALAM, 15 July: The statement by the Director General of Customs, Datuk Sri Khazali Ahmad, for registered businesses to comply with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by immediately registering shows the government’s determination to implement it without caring about the burden that the people have to shoulder.

The former Director of Bank Negara Malaysia, Dr Rosli Yaakob, said that bthis shows that the government does not care about the people’s protests against shifting the country’s burdens to the people.

“This clearly shows that the government does not care about the objections of the people that have been done or will be done in future despite the tax burden of the people increasing because of the GST. This shows an attitude of not being pro-people.

“The debt is increasing and the government has mega projects they want to implement. Therefore, the government needs huge funds. The government has no other way to increase their revenue except to impose the GST on the people.

“The GST is comprehensive to all people, regardless of being rich or poor, old or young, it will definitely give a lot of revenue to the government. That is why the government is so serious of wanting to implement it,” he said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

He said that the sharp increase in national income through the tax will allow the government to be more wasteful in spending although there are methods that can be taken to save the people’s money that can be taken to save the country from the burden of the high debt.

Prior to this, Khazali, in his closing remarks at the National GST Conference 2014, urged companies and businesses to register as soon as possible to take advantage of the E-Voucher Subsidy Programme, on July 11.

He said that companies that register early will be given the E-Voucher subsidy worth RM1,000 to buy GST-compliant accounting software from suppliers verified by the Customs Department.

When the GST is implemented, the companies that achieve a turnover of over RM500,000 a year are required to charge consumers the GST.
