Jom Shopping lightens the burden of 500 families

SUNGAI BULOH, 21 July: The Jom Shopping Raya (Let’s Go Raya Shopping) has been well received by the community in Paya Jaras since it was first introduced by the State Government last year.

This is because the programme offers RM100 worth of shopping coupons which is able to lighten the burden of the less fortunate in preparing for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

The Assemblyman for Paya Jaras, Mohd Khairuddin Othman, said that although RM100 is not a huge amount, but the contribution is greatly appreciated by recipients because they are able to enjoy state revenue.

“While RM100 is not great, but it helps ease the burden of the target group.

“The demand for this programme is high and they are happy to have the opportunity to enjoy state revenue which is returned to the people compared to before 2008 where they did not get anything from the state’s prosperity,” said Mohd Khairuddin to Selangor Kini yesterday.

Mohd Khairuddin added that all those registered in the Senior Citizen’s Scheme (SMUE) but have not been able to participate in the Jom Shopping programme will be given the same opportunity at the next Jom Shopping programme.

“For those who have not been called, we will call them to join other Jom Shopping programmes, according to the priority given,” added Mohd Khairuddin.

A total of 500 SMUE participants from Paya Jaras joined the Jom Shopping programme held at the Paya Jaras Econsave Supermarket.

The recent two-day programme, on Saturday and Sunday, was also attended by the village heads around Paya Jaras and officers of the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN).
