SHAH ALAM, 28 Aug: The Cental PAS stressed that the party remains consistent with the stance that the Selangor Chief Minister’s seat belongs to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Citing Harakah Daily, the PAS Secretary-General, Datuk Mustafa Ali, said that they will present no less than two PKR Assemblymen’s names to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as the new Chief Minister candidate.
He said that PAS will send the list to the Palace before the deadline to do so on September 3.
“We will not nominate PAS Assemblymen for the post because the Chief Minister of Selangor is an office belonging to PKR. We respect this and it is final.
“If there are reports saying that I said at least three names (as Chief Minster candidates), it is incorrect,” he explained.
He reportedly held a meeting with the state PAS leadership which included the state PAS Commissioner, who is also a Selangor Government Executive Council member, Iskandar Abdul Samad, and the state PAS Secretary, Mohd Khairuddin Othman, yesterday.
Mustafa said that the meeting did not touch on the issue of the Selangor Chief Minister issue; instead he only explained the chronology of the Chief Minister position crisis to the state PAS members.
Yesterday, the Selangor Palace sent official letters to PKR, PAS and DAP, ordering them to send two names as the Chief Minister candidates before September 3.
The letters were addressed to the President of PKR, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, with copies to the PAS President, Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and the DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng, and also expressed that the nominated candidate needs to be Muslim and of Malay descend, according to Article L1 (2) or the Selangor State Constitution.
On August 26, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, postponed the acceptance of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s resignation as the Chief Minister of Selangor until a new appointment is determined.
