New art concept to boost tourism in Selangor

SEPANG, 29 Aug: The ART@Sepang GoldCoast – Live & Breathe Art 2014 exhibition which highlights the news concept of ‘space for art’ is able to attract art lovers to participate and boost tourism activities in Selangor, starting from August 28 to September 1.

The management measures of Sepang GoldCoast Sdn Bhd in organising the activity at Avani Sepang Gold Coast received praise from the State Government which considers it as an effort to encourage tourism, especially in preparation of the Visit Selangor Year 2015.

“It is a new concept which for the first time is being introduced in Malaysia. On behalf of the State Government and Tourism Selangor, we are proud that this state was chosen as the host for such activities,” said the Assemblyman for Taman Templer, Zaidy Abdul Talib when inaugurating the exhibition.

Zaidy was representing the State Executive Council member, Sallehen Mukhyi, and the programme was also attended by the General Manager of Tourism Selangor, Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din and the Executive Vice President of Sepang GoldCoast, MC Wong.

Zaidy said that artistic activities carried out there is new and opens up more space to draw the attraction of different tourists to Malaysia.

“We are definitely new in this field compared to other countries that are well ahead, especially Europe which is popular with their heritage art. However, we should support and promote such activities because it brings about many benefits, as well as generates the state’s economy.

“Selangor also has many advantages. It is not just a slogan, but it has been proven that it has many iconic attractions and interesting places for each kind of tourist,” he said.

The opening was enlivened by the performances of local artists like Sharifah Zuriah AlJefferi, Chia Hoy Sai, Sivarajan Natarajan, Phillip Wong, Nazmi Ismail and Keat Leong who drew on a canvas to express respect and condolences to all victims of MH17 and MH370, as well as victims of tragedy in the world.

This exhibition is also to commemorate the country’s independence and the 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism Festival 2014 (1MCAT), where they will showcase their paintings produced at Avani Sepang GoldCoast.

Meanwhile, MC Wong said that the concept of ‘space for art’ is being held for the first time and the public can enter to look at paintings exhibited by artists, as well as a gallery, Avani Lounge, which features the works of six artists from various mediums.

“Sepang GoldCoast will be a pioneer in introducing this new concept of art appreciation to Malaysians and guests of our resort. It has proven to be successful in other countries, especially in Hong Kong and Singapore.

“We believe that the resort guests and the public will appreciate this new experience in this period of time, especially when they too can take part in art workshops carried out by the artists themselves,” he said.
