KLANG, 29 Aug: Seven stalls belonging to foreigners were seized in a joint operation carried out at the Jalan Papan Morning Market in Pandamaran, coordinated by the Enforcement Department together with the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) Department of Licencing, Engineering, Environmental Services, Buildings and Health.
The operation was carried out as early as 5.30 am and targeted foreign traders and traders without licence as well as the existence of illegal structures in the location and the waste problem which is often an issue at the market.
The seizing was done under the MPK Traders By-Laws 3 2007 and 90 notices were issued by the Engineering Department to owners to demolish unauthorised buildings or structures.
The MPK President, Datuk Mohamad Yacob, said that the findings also showed that there are traders who make illegal connections or wiring to receive water and electricity through the public toilets available.
“The matter was referred for further action because MPK takes this matter seriously,” he told Selangor Kini.
He said that the morning market, which has been operational since 2004 also witnessed a sharp increase in trading spaces, especially on Saturday and Sunday, as well as creating hygiene problems in the surrounding areas, where a handful of traders like throwing waste into drains.
“To worsen the situation, most traders do not clean up their business space after operations, causing the local area to be rather dirty and smelly, in addition to the traffic problems faced by consumers.
“MPK will certainly pay attention the the issues of the Jalan Papan morning market and not compromise, especially involving foreign and illegal traders, as well as unauthorised structures. In fact, operations like this will be continued from time to time,” he said.
