After P.Waythamoorthy resigns, what is the direction for the Indian community?

SHAH ALAM, 17 Sept: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government is allegedly not serious in addressing the socio-economic problems of the Indian community as there is no concrete ‘blue print’ to develop the community until today, said the Deputy Chairman of the Perak DAP, V.Sivakumar.

He said that BN only makes empty promises prior to the 13th General Election (GE13) to gain support from the Indian community, however it was forgotten once the coalition managed to retain their victory.

He said that the assistance provided to the Indian community is deemed to be little and may not be able to take the community out from the clutches of poverty.

“Every Indian leader from various BN component parties only deceives the Indian community for their own political interests.

“There are also major leaders like Datuk Seri G.Palanivel, who does not dare voice the aspirations of the Indian community, and many people consider him to be a leader who is afraid with his own shadow.

“The Indian community has lost various citizenship rights because their leaders do not dare to oppose the government which is led by Umno” said the Member of Parliament for Batu Gajah.

In the meantime, Sivakumar also questioned the position of the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, which was held by the Chairman of Hindraf, P.Waythamoorthy, after the GE13, for whom there is no replacement until today.

He said that the resignation is a loss to the Indian community and he called for the government to provide information about the portfolio status of P.Waythamoorthy during the House of Representatives session which will begin on October 7.

“I ask the Prime Minister to state the status of the Deputy Minister which was given to the Hindraf leader, P.Waythamoorthy. Who has been appointed by the government to take over the portfolio after he resigns?

“Will socio-economic agendas for the Indian community be continued by the Prime Minister’s Department and what is its function, and also state in detail matters that will be achieved and implemented in the near future,” he added.

Last February, P.Waythamoorthy resigned from the position as Deputy Minister following Putrajaya’s failure to fulfil their promises to the Indian community.
