SKUDAI, 17 Sept: The Malaysian PAS Muslimat Council (DMPM) today unanimously accepted the motion to urge the government to cancel the implementation of the Good and Services Tax (GST) Bill.
The motion was presented by the Director of Ameerah Malaysia, Fareedah Samad, and it was discussed by the three representatives from Selangor, Kedah and Perlis at the 54th DMPM conference at Spring Resort Pulai today.
DMPM urged the government to take effective measures to help the low to medium income groups in their household expenses when the GST Act comes into effect.
They also urged the government to pay more attention to efforts that boost the people’s income through direct intervention from the government to balance the people’s lives as they are dealing with the high cost of living.
“The government must prevent inflation from surging when the GST is implemented by imposing a zero rate on main fuel used by the people such as petrol, diesel and electricity,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.
DMPM regrets that if the GST is implemented in Malaysia in the near future, 10 million Malaysians who were not eligible to pay taxes all these while have to bear with the burden of the new tax.
