SHAH ALAM, 14 Oct: 932 areas or 96.3 percent of 968 areas involved in the water pollution that occurred a few days ago have been completely restored.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the water supply for the areas involved have been restored and can be used as of 5 this morning.
However, he said, the state government is still investigation the parties that caused the pollution.
“As of 5 this morning, of the 968 areas involved, 932 areas (96.3%) have been fully restored,” he said through Twitter.
He said that the Semenyih Plant is also over-loading in their operation to increase the level at the balance pool for the supply of water to USJ.
“I have asked the Selangor Water Supply Company (SYABAS) to increase efforts at the Semenyih Plant and recover the channelling of clean water the USJ area,” he said.
SYABAS informed that the four Water Treatment Plants (WTP) affected by the hydrocarbon spill has been operational in stages since 8am yesterday (October 13).
On October 11, the Sungai Selangor WTP Phase I, II and II, as well as the Rantau Panjang WTP, has to be stopped after discovering the hydrocarbon spill.
The operation was stopped for 12 hours, causing the inability to supply 1,350 million litres of water, or 60 percent of the water supply, to consumers.
The Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) is actively conducting an investigation to identify the real cause of the hydrocarbon spill at the Sungai Selangor headworks recently.
