Flood victims in Kelantan increases

SHAH ALAM, 22 Nov: The number of flood victims at three evacuation centres around Kota Bharu and Pasir Puteh increased to 155 people, as of this morning, compared to 130 people yesterday.

According to the official state government portal, 96 victims were given shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Mulong and 34 were staying at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tiong in this district while in Pasir Puteh, 25 victims were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Raja.

According to Bernama, the water level in Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang receded from 9.05m last night to 8.79m at 8am (the danger level is 9m).

Other rivers have yet to reach the alert level and no major roads were closed.

The weather in Kelantan this morning was bright with no rain.

Meanwhile, in Kuala Terengganu, the National Security Council (MKN) Terengganu said the flood situation in the state was improving with many victims who were evacuated to the flood relief centres being allowed to return home since yesterday.

As at 9am today, 2,741 victims were still staying at 15 relief centres in three districts that were still affected by the floods compared with 3,879 victims reported last night.

“A total of 1,138 evacuees were allowed to return home since yesterday evening,” the report said.

The report said Kuala Terengganu still had the largest number of evacuees compared with the other areas with a total of 2,350 victims from 591 families who were staying at 10 relief centres.

This was followed by Marang district with 303 victims from 74 families staying at three relief centres, while in Setiu, there were 88 victims from 20 families.

In Setiu, the victims were placed at two centres, Surau Kampung Nyatoh (56 people) and Surau Pengkalan Gelap (72 people).
