Sports development continues, composed to produce outstanding athletes

SHAH ALAM, 22 Dec: Selangor is capable of producing outstanding athletes if the sports development in the state is carried out in an on-going and composed manner, in addition to close cooperation from all parties.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, represented by the Exco for Young Generation Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneurship Development, Amirudin Shari, said that the state government, through the Selangor State Sports Council (MSN), will make various changes from time to time, including to strengthen the functions of the District Sports Council (MSD).

He said that the MSD is considered a place that has the ability to produce new athletes that may not have previously been given attention.

After this tournament, the Selangor MSN would definitely have a list of athletes who will be honed. Hopefully sports associations will accept them and included in the succession programmes.

“This is because sports require an on-going process to ensure that we are able to produce excellent athletes and teams,” he said.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th Selangor Sports Championship (Sukses), 2014, yesterday.

He said that Sukses is the best field for new athletes from the grassroots to highlight their abilities and potential because from there, they will be evaluated and honed for success to be considered to represent Selangor and then the country.

“With all that we have, we are able to become champions in the next Malaysia Games (Sukma),” he said.

Amirudin said that in the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2015 by the Chief Minister during the Selangor State Assembly session, sports development programmes in Selangor received a significant allocation.

He said for sports infrastructure also, an allocation of RM12 million is given, while for overall sports development, including management programmes, athlete development and so on, RM17 million was allocated.

“The state government is emphasising on sports development as part of the state development.

Selangor’s development should be in line with sports development,” he said.
