SHAH ALAM, 3 Jan: Eight assistants of the former Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, have been ordered to return the gratuity payment of RM2.6 million received from Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI).
The payment must be made within 14 days after the receipt of the letter sent by the new management of MBI to the eight individuals.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that MBI found that there are some things in violation of the financial rules and regulations in respect of the payment and the contractual terms agreed.
“After receiving advice from the lawyers, the new management decided to send them letters to remind them to return the money paid,” he told the media after attending the Selangor Maulidur Rasul 1436 Hijra celebration at the Malawati Stadium.
He said that action will be taken if the parties do not return it, but the state government will give them the opportunity to examine the related letter and act as instructed.
“Of course they have to return the money to MBI and MBI will examine the amount entitled to be paid to them,” he said.
Previously, eight of Abdul Khalid’s officers appointed by MBI reportedly received compensation valued at RM2.6 million.
The payment was allegedly made at the end of Abdul Khalid’s term before Azmin took over as Chief Minister.
The results of the audit report on the compensation payment was presented at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) on December 3 and found that there were significant errors in the payment formalities and procedures.
It involves excess payments to the former CEO of MBI, Faekah Husin, and the former political secretary Mustapha Mohd Talib.
