SHAH ALAM, 28 Dec: Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) asserts that a premises in Setia Alam alleged to be running night club activities is actually a cafeteria that showcases music performances (live bands).
However, the Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad said that ‘live band’ performances were carried out without the permission and approval of the MBSA Department of Licencing and Enforcement.
“From, the result of inspections carried out, we found that the premises has licence to conduct cafeteria business activities but does not posses licence for ‘live band’ performances.
“Therefore, MBSA has ordered the premises operators to stop activities that do not have permission (to run),” Shahrin asserted when contacted by TV Selangor.
According to him, a notice was also issued to the operator of the premises in accordance with 2007 MBSA Trade, Commerce and Industry Licencing Bye-Laws.
Also resulting from that action, Shahrin said, the cafeteria operator submitted an application to showcase music performances at his premises.
However, the application will only be discussed and decided at the upcoming MBSA Business and Health Control Meeting.
Commenting on the sale of alcoholic beverages on the premises, Shahrin stressed that MBSA has no right to issue any liquor sales licences.
“Liquor sales license is issued by the district and land office, and for this area (Setia Alam), it is issued by the Petaling District and Land Office,” he said.
According to a newspaper report recently, a premises in Setia Alam was said to open on December 12, commemorating the 12.12.12 date.
Apart from selling liquor, there have been claims that the premises also offered entertainment performances.
Following the report, Shah Alam MP, Khalid Samad issued a statement urging MBSA to take stern action against the premises.
