Lawyer: Anwar entitled to health needs

SHAH ALAM, 19 Feb: Every prison inmate is entitled to apply for any needs that are consistent with health problems, regardless if the inmate is convicted of a criminal offense or political offense.

Padang Serai Member of Parliament, N.Surendran, said that the facility is the fundamental requirement that needs to be provided in prison.

“Indeed, there is full right to apply (health facilities). Any health facility must be provided by the prison,” he told Selangor Kini.

He said this touching on the application made by the PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. At the moment, he is waiting for response and he declined to elaborate.

Previously, PKR expressed dissatisfaction on the facilities granted to Anwar at the Sungai Buloh Prison when Anwar’s cell was decrepit, uncomfortable and had no reading facilities.

PKR has however sent a request to the prison for Anwar to be given basic facilities.

Yesterday, the prison explained that Anwar will be treated on par with other prisoners and that there will be no privileges.
