Caution, Aedes mosquitoes are more active in warm weather

SHAH ALAM, 23 Feb: Aedes mosquitoes can still breed and the dengue virus is more active in hot weather, said Health Exco, Dr Daroyah Alwi.

Thus, people are advised to keep their residential areas clean by increasing efforts to find and destroy areas that are at risk of becoming breading grounds for mosquito larvae.

“The hot weather stimulated the breeding of (Aedes) mosquitoes and the replication of virus (dengue) in mosquitoes.

“The role of the community is needed. Clean areas that can potentially be larvae breeding grounds,” she told Selangor Kini.

She said this when commenting of the equinox phenomenon that will hit the country next week, resulting in warmer weather changes due to the position of the sun that is directly above the equator.

The hot weather phenomena will lead to an increase in temperature of one to two degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Malaysia at the moment is around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

“Should Selangor face water rationing due to this drought to a point that we have to keep water supply, make sure that it is stored well. Cover it to avoid it from becoming the breeding ground for mosquito larvae,” she said.
