GOMBAK, 21 Mar: The Selangor water restructuring agreement with the Federal Government, which was cancelled in early March, will be continued after Putrajaya agrees to return to the terms of the main agreement which was signed in September 2014.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that he has received a letter from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) regarding the issue of the agreement, different from what is being portrayed by the media.
“The ministry was very respectful and even thanked the state government for the cooperation in the water agreement and stated the Federal Government’s readiness to revert to the terms of the original agreement signed in 2014.
“Because of that, the state government is willing to hold a discussion and we assure finalisation of the restructuring exercise based on the previous conditions as soon as possible.
“This is the state government’s commitment to the central government,” he said after presenting the 5A Notices at the Muhibbah Complex at Batu Caves today.
In the meantime, Mohamed Azmin said that the meeting between officers and the ministry and the state government will also be held on Monday to discuss the original water agreement.
“On Monday, there will be a meeting at the officials’ level because we received a letter from the ministry last week which emphasised the central government’s commitment to return to the original terms of the agreement.
“I agree as long as they do not violate the agreement,” he said.
On March 9, the water restructuring agreement with the central government lapsed after KeTTHA asked for a postponement for the third time.
The central government also allegedly breached the terms of the agreement signed in 2014, leading the state government to have no other choice.
