7 local authorities to implement free community bus service by June

SHAH ALAM, 9 Apr: Free community bus services will be introduced by seven local authorities as part of the state government’s effort to help the people in dealing with the rising cost of living starting June.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government is committed to ensuring that free public transport can be used by the people immediately.

“The initiative for the implementation was supposedly scheduled for 2016, but the state government wants the people to be given this free bus service by June as the cost of living is on the rise.

“This shows the state government’s commitment even though public transportation is under the central government, but we have seen that there is a need so it will be done,” he said during the winding-up session at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) today.

The local authorities involved are the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp), the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

“So far, MBPJ has provided 10 buses to residents from the township to the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station or near workplaces,” he said.
