SHAH ALAM, 24 May: The implementation of the High Performance Student Programme (HIPERS) by Yayasan Selangor managed to record positive results for 10 schools involved in the achievement of 77.7 percent of gaining 3As in the Primary School Assessment Test (UPSR) 2014.
The General Manager of Yayasan Selangor, Ismail Idris, said that even though it was launched for a year, its implementation is not only beneficial to schools but sponsored students from low-income families.
“The tuition and education programme sponsorship given through HIPERS prove our commitment in helping the schools involved achieve an improvement in the UPSR.
“This then makes the students feeders into the Yayasan Selangor Education Plan for secondary schools,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Yayasan Selangor Excellence Award Ceremony 2014 at the Silver Jubilee Hall yesterday.
The event was graced by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, and also attended by the Selangor Exco for Education, Human Capital Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
HIPERS was launched in 2014 in collaboration with the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) involving primary schools selected by JPNS and primary religious schools under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) with 10 schools having selected to work on.
The target is for students coming from middle and lower income families who have the potential to be successful at every school involved.
“Yayasan Selangor as the main proponent of education continues to provide high commitment in improving the performance of schools in Selangor, especially in public examinations,” he said.
At the event, 196 outstanding students sponsored by Yayasan Selangor received the Education Excellence Award for their outstanding performance in academic and co-curricular achievements.
While the HIPERS Programme Best School 2014 award was won by Sekolah Rendah Bandar Baru Bangi (SRBBB) with 12 students managing to achieve 5As in the UPSR.
SRBBB took home a cash prize of RM1,000, a certificate of appreciation and a trophy.
While the award for Best Overall 2014 was won by a year five student of Sekolah Agama Menengah Bestari Subang Jaya, Siti Khairunnisa Ahmad Jailani.
The award is given based on academic achievement (UPSR-5As, PMR-9As, SMA 98.5%) as well as being active in extra-curricular activities.
“My success today is the hard work of my parents, teachers and stimulus from Yayasan Selangor.
“I am determined to achieve excellent results in the SPM this year. Pray that I get 11As for me to achieve my ambition of becoming a lecturer in the future,” he said, taking home RM300 cash, a certificate of appreciation and a trophy.
