SHAH ALAM, 19 Aug: A total of 250 participants of all ages today participates in the Leisurely Cycling Programme in conjunction with the 58th Merdeka Day celebration.
The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad, said that participants carried the national flag in response to the Hoist the Jalur Gemilang campaign.
“It aims to instill the spirit of patriotism and love of country among students and teachers.
“This programme can increase patriotism among the people, especially the younger generation,” he told Selangor Kini.
Starting at Dataran Kemerdekaan, participants were flagged off by the Deputy Mayor, Shukri Mohamad Hamin, at 8.30 and cycled 30 kilometres around the city centre.
They also stopped at five selected schools Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, SMK Seksyen 7, SMK Seksyen 16, SMK Seksyen 19 and SMK Seksyen 24 to present flags.
