PANTAS ready to mobilise to Sabah to aid quake victims

SHAH ALAM, 7 June: The Selangor government is ready to send the Selangor Humanitarian Aid Mission Society (PANTAS) to Sabah to help the victims of the devastating earthquake there.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said this when she was researching the developments of the victims there.

“We have not decided because we are looking into it, looking into the type of assistance that can be sent there.

“If there is a need, I will ask for provisions and we will send the PANTAS team to Sabah to help the victims. At the moment, PANTAS is always ready,” Dr Daroyah said when contacted by Selangor Kini.

About 7.15 am on Friday, an earthquake that was 6.0 on the Richter scale centered 6.1 north, 116.6 east, about 16 kilometres south-west of Ranau.

The quake was felt around Ranau, Tambunan, the interior and the west coast, including Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Beaufort and Kota Belud.

Bernama reported that as of yesterday, 11 bodies were found at Mount Kinabalu, bringing the number of those who perished in the disaster to 13 people, while six climbers are still missing.
