MPSJ takes over management of Uptown

SUBANG JAYA, 4 AUG: The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has fully taken over the management of Uptown Bazaar Heritage Puchong Permai following several issues which had arisen before this.

President, Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, said that the decision was made during the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting last June.

He said that issues had arisen when the site involved was leased to middlemen who built Uptown structures and collected rental charges.

“MPSJ leased the site to a company. It was then leased to middlemen who built Uptown structures and collected rental charges.

“Problems occurred when the license application and other things could not be made, causing some dissatisfaction,” he told reporters after the monthly MPSJ meeting recently.

Nor Hisham said that the EXCO then decided that Uptown and its management be handed over to the council.

“We have already called three parties, including the companies that previously paid rent to the council, as well as middlemen and vendors to inform them of the state government’s decision.

“Now, management affairs only involve the council and the vendors, without anymore intervention of middlemen,” he said.

He said that in the meantime, the council is in the process of restructuring for about 120 existing vendors there.

Prior to this, vendors in Uptown Bazaar Heritage began to worry following concerns over unlicensed business operations to this day.

Vendors claim that they feel cheated and misled by the bazaar management company that said the group license of RM30 per month for each vendor was still being processed.

They added that sometimes the management gave different excuses, such as the license has been issued and was sitting in the MPSJ office.

More confusingly, the status of the business site was also in question as the land is said to belong to MPSJ while some claim that it is privately owned.
