GOMBAK, 1 Sept: The state government will seize land used by certain parties to undertake illegal dumping in Kampung Sungai Pasu after the proceeding period ends on September 5.

“The seizure process has already begin with the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) issuing the 7 (B) Notice and they are given 21 days to undergo the proceedings.

“If they do not rehabilitate and clean up this land until the time, then the authorities will confiscate them,” he told the media after a special operation today.

Mohamed Azmin said that this is an attempt to ensure that Selangor becomes a clean state in respect of the many complaints received about domestic, bulk, farm and industrial waste.

He said that the programme was carried out in several local authority areas starting with Subang till Selayang, and found that there are problems to be solved immediately.

“Legal provisions alone are not enough because there are many things that are still loose and we cannot confirm that this matter will be handled well.

“I hope that local authorities and district councils can play a role alongside Assemblymen to use assertiveness according to existing by-laws and enforcement to ensure that this is not repeated,” he said.

He said that such programmes will continue to address such problems and this approach is seen as being able to reduce it from time to time.

“For domestic waste dumping in areas allowed, we have Bukit Tagar, Jeram and several other designated locations.

“We are also identifying landfills at each local authority so that there is no far movement for contractors.

“This move is underway and will continue. What we are certain of is that we require cooperation from contractors,” he said.

In the operation today, two lorries believed to be carrying illegal waste was seized and some problematic areas were identified for further action.
