Review all illegal factory legalising programmes

SHAH ALAM, 1 Sept: The illegal factory legalising programme in Selangor will be reviewed in the last quarter of this year to ensure that the problem is solved.

The Exco for Local Government, Legalising Illegal Factories and New Village Development, Ean Yong Hian Wah, said that so far, more than half the illegal factories have gone through the legalising process since 2008.

He said that it should be implemented through a member of policies and cooperation with the local authorities as well as the land and district offices.

“We also provide incentives and flexibility for the owners of illegal factories to facilitate the legalisation programme.

“If the legalising period expires, enforcement action will be taken against factories that failed under these local authority and land governing laws,” he told Selangor Kini.

Ean said that the state government will give flexibility to factory owners through the 50 percent discount offered on the land premium and the development land to facilitate these efforts.

He said that all local authorities adopt the Factory Legalising Implementation Standardization Guideline to facilitate owners of illegal factories to obtain building approval.

“We do not want to use force to demolish factories or force them. So, the discussion will take place before the next move command is issued,” he said.

A total of 1,000 applications to convert the factory conditions have been approved based on the records released by the Selangor Land and District Office as of December 2014.

The Petaling District recorded the highest rate of application for conversion that is 686 factories, followed by Klang (55), Hulu Langat (158), Kuala Langat (71), Gombak (19), Kuala Selangor (5), Hulu Selangor (5), Sepang (1), while there were no applications from Sabak Bernam.
