SHAH ALAM, 17 Aug: The restructuring of Selangor’s water industry cannot be attributed to the cause of treated water supply disruptions that have happened in some areas.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government is committed to resolving the problem and is only waiting for Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (SPLASH) to be taken over.
“Now we want to take steps so that treated water supply is not disrupted.
“The raw water supply in Selangor is enough with sufficient reserves, but there is a shortage in the amount of treated water because the treatment plant is producing at full capacity,” he told reporters at the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) today.
At the same time, Mohamed Azmin (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) said that there are several measures being implemented to address water supply disruptions.
Among them, the Mitigation Project 2 which transfers surplus raw water in northern Selangor to south of the state, has shown positive results.
“When we fully acquire Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) which distributes treated water, we will ask for the distribution method to be revised.
“The need for the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant is also urgent and we want the Federal government to complete the project on schedule,” he said.
