Selangor forms football academy, produce quality players

KELANA JAYA, 11 Oct: The Exco for Young Generation, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, hopes that a football academy in Selangor can be set up next year.

He said that the establishment of the academy aims to develop new football talent to compete in the Selangor and national team.

To date, the modules and structural development of the academy has been identified and involves cooperation of all parties, including state sports agencies.

“We are examining the module and structure that is best with the cooperation of all government-inked companies (GLC) of the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) to form a more organised sports academy.

“There a lot of competitions that I have connected with the Education Department and the Football Association of Selangor (FAS),” he said.

He said this when met by Selangor Kini at the 2nd Dato Mokhtar Dahari Cup Football Championship at the PKNS Sports Complex in SS7 today.

He explained that football championships such as the Dato’ Mokhtar Dahari Cup is the best platform to select the best players to be inducted into the football academy.

A total of 30 players have been identified to be developed by FAS to represent the state football team.

“Competitions like this is the resource for us to get coaches and we will create environmental development programmes for ages 16 and above,” he said.
