KUIS listed as the 37th among Malaysian Higher Education Institutions

KAJANG, 30 June: The Selangor Islamic University College (KUIS) managed to be ranked 37th out of 500 higher learning education institutions in Malaysia.

The KUIS Reactor, Prof Datuk Dr Ab Halim Tamuri, said that the factor that also contributed is the encouraging increase in the number of students over the years.

“Two years ago, there were only 3,450 students, but it went up to 7,058 earlier this year.

“The June 2015 session saw 18,000 applications received, but only 2,400 were selected while 1,000 foundations will enroll this July. This brings the total to over 8,000 students,” he said.

He said this in front of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, during the Iftar at the KUIS mosque compound yesterday.

KUIS was established in 1995 and is wholly owned by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).

Until now, KUIS has produced over 15,000 graduates in many fields including foundation level studies, diploma, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate.

Halim said that KUIS has also maintained the fee without any increase since 2008.

“Thanks to Zakat payers, especially the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) which has been allocating RM12 million a year since 2007.

“Along with the increase in Zakat collection and the increase of students, I humbly ask for the funds to be continued or increased,” he said.
