FKK Yonex Cup to develop badminton in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 26 June: The organisation of the International FKK Yonex Cup 2015 is believed to be able to assist the sustainable development of badminton in Selangor continuously.

The Exco for Young Generation Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that the competition, now in its fourth year, involves former and legendary figures in the sport.

“We have players from Malaysia such as Foo Kok Keong, Ong Ewe Hock and Yap Kim Hock, as well as legendary players from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Australia, in the competition that will end on June 28.

“Such competitions will surely be able to help develop the sport among the people in Selangor,” he said after opening the competition at the Shah Alam Club today.

The five categories being contested is men’d doubles 110 years and above (doubles combined age), men’s doubles 90 years and above, men’s doubles 70 years and above, men’s doubles 100 years and above and mixed doubles (men aged 50 and above and women 30 years and above).

Amirudin said that Selangor is ready to absorb badminton academy players to join the state team.

“We are prepared to meet with senior players like Foo Kok Keong and Ong Ewe Hock who have their own academies. We are optimistic that we can benefit from their efforts,” he said.
