SHAH ALAM, 16 June: Selangor will hold a large badminton competition in order to highlight new talent that can be polished under the auspicious club of a former national player.

The Exco for Young Generation, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, said that these new talent must be produced immediately so that they can be comparable with the country’s number one player, Datuk Lee Chong Wei.

“We know that many former national players are personally involved in clubs to train new talent. Each coach would certainly have 10 young players to train.

“So, we are planning to discuss with them about how we can produce more new players to be the successors in the future,” he said.

Amirudin said that the lack in young players in badminton has also opened the eyes of the state government to work together with former national players to produce more new players.

“Like football, badminton is also a sport that is very excellent in the state’s sport development. Many skilled players are from this state.

“It has become normal for clubs to produce players. So, we want to get out of this tradition and create a new atmosphere in the sport of badminton in Malaysia.

“So, there is no problem for Selangor to produce new talent in the coming years. The state government and the State Sports Council (MSN) are constantly monitoring we have no problems in this regard,” he said.
