Mother of Kinabalu mountain pilot did not expect to be helped by ‘people from far away’

RANAU, 15 June: The mother to the late mountain pilot, Ricky Masirin, Sahiah Boliking, 53, was overwhelmed with the Selangor government’s concern about families who dies during the Kinabalu earthquake.

Sahiah said that in fact, she did not expect to receive a visit from the Selangor government delegation at her house in Kampung Kauluan.

“Thanks to the Selangor government which came from far to give us donations.

“This donation means a lot to us and I pray that God blesses Selangor,” said Sahiah to Selangor Kini.

The graduate from the Sabah Politechnic, Ricky Masirin, 28, died when trying to take foreign tourists down Mount Kinabalu on the day of the incident.

The brother of Joseph Salungin, another mountain pilot who died, Marius Salungin, 46, also could not hide his overwhelmed feelings, mixed with surprise.

“This assistance eases the burden of the deceased’s family as he left a two year old and four year old child,” said Marius.

The Selangor government delegation, led by the Exco, Dr Daroyah Alwi, since yesterday presented cash donations to 211 individual recipients and nine associations and religious homes that were affected by the earthquake.
